How we use AI
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Mindful Meal Plans uses AI for a handful of jobs that save you typing and thinking time. This page says which ones, which companies run the models, and what we send them. The full legal detail is in our Privacy Policy, section 4.
What the AI does
| Feature | What it does | Model |
|---|---|---|
| Meal plan generation | Builds a week of meals from your household's preferences | Anthropic Claude Sonnet |
| Meal plan and recipe refinement | Changes a plan or recipe when you ask (swap a meal, make it dairy-free) | Anthropic Claude Sonnet |
| Fridge and pantry scan | Reads a photo of your fridge or pantry and suggests what you can make | Anthropic Claude Sonnet (vision) |
| Recipe photo scan | Reads a photo of a printed or handwritten recipe | Anthropic Claude Sonnet (vision) |
| Recipe import | Turns a recipe web page or a pasted caption into a clean recipe | Anthropic Claude Haiku |
| AI Chef | Answers cooking questions while you cook | Anthropic Claude Haiku |
| Recipe photos | Draws a picture for a recipe that has none | FLUX (run by Replicate), with Google Imagen as a backup |
Everything else in the app, such as your lists, pantry, household sharing and recipe library, works without AI.
What we send, and what we do not
- Only what the feature needs. An import sends the page or caption you gave us. A fridge scan sends the photo you took. A meal plan sends the dietary preferences that matter for it.
- Recipe photos get no personal information. The image providers receive the recipe's title and a short description, nothing about you.
- Not used to train models. Under Anthropic's terms, content sent through the Claude API is not used to train their models. We do not use your content to train any model either.
- All AI runs on our servers. The app and the website never hold an AI key. Requests go through our own server functions, which also cap how many AI requests one account can make in a day.
- What we keep. We log the time, size and cost of each AI request for billing and capacity planning, not the content of your prompts.
Where the AI runs
Anthropic processes AI requests in the United States. Your account data is stored with Supabase in the United States (us-east-1). Section 7 of the Privacy Policy has the details.
AI can be wrong
AI-made meal plans, recipes and scans are suggestions. They can miss an ingredient, misread a photo or get an amount wrong. Always check ingredients and allergens yourself before you cook, and talk to a qualified professional for medical or dietary needs. Some recipe photos are drawn by AI, so the dish you make may look different.
